“AEC Class 88” stemmed from an idea that germinated in 2009 amongst a few friends of the Assam Engineering College batch of 1988. Casual discussions to hold a reunion meet with the families of this batch culminated into forming this foundation that has contributed towards many facets of welfare. From mere tree plantation and offering scholarships to students of its Alma mater the foundation has come a long way in its endeavour to contribute not only for the welfare of the engineering fraternity but also for the society in general. Noteworthy contributions have been made every year to uplift orphanages, agriculturists, weavers, differently abled children in addition to encouraging innovative projects for sustainable development. To “give back to the society whatever little that is possible” has been the driving force of every engineer in this foundation. The activities of this foundation have been listed below in chronological order from the year 2012 till date.
Pulak Sarma , Dipak Sarma in association with few others did all the home work to form a group out of the 1988 Alumnae batch of AEC, by collecting all the information of maximum members of the batch mates , and judiciously opted for a warm up union before the Silver jubilee celebration. Thus the Warm up event “Rupalim-I” of “AEC Class 88” was organized on 22nd December 2012 in the Green wood Resort, Khanapara. All the batch mates assembled were overwhelmed by the presence of each other after along gap. It was the maiden get together of our batch of 88.
The Warm up get together saw an optimistic response from some 42 batch mates, and the group got a required start up that immensely boosted the morals of the organizers to prepare a platform for the Silver Jubilee celebration. With much more fanfare and enthusiasm Silver Jubilee was celebrated in two phases on 26th December 2013. The 1st function “Plantation” in the AEC Campus, “GRATITUDE” at AEC Auditorium, followed by “Friendly Launch” with our ex-professors, in the morning half. The 2nd function, Grand Cultural FINALE, “RUPALIM-II “was organised in the evening at the “Green Wood Resort”, Khanapara with our batch mates and their families. Almost 72 numbers of our batch mates turned up in the event physically and many more pledged their union through other communications. To memorise the event a drawing competition among the children was also organized. In many ways the Silver Jubilee function was a turning point in the life of AEC Class88. The exemplary support of our ex-professors as well as the batch mates added a new dimension of life. We were reminded by our Gurus that it is a repay time to the society now. We had to be more responsible now. As per wish of our batch mates and our ex-professors we then formed a Charitable Trust “AEC CLASS 88 FOUNDATION” and registered it on 31st October 2016 for continuous and sustainable social activities with clearly laid down objectives
